The book consists of twelve chapters grouped into three periods: in the first, 1881-1916, Brigitte Léal describes and analyzes Picasso's life and work from his early experiences and formative years to his move to Paris in 1901, where he would begin his Cubist career. In the second period, 1917-1952, Christine Piot continues with the narration and analysis of the artist's production, while describing the events that had the greatest influence on his constant process of evolution.
