Great masters of painting: Cézanne

Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) is a forerunner, a painter devoted to a dream: to create a work that would reach museums and transcend the artistic currents of his time. He dedicated his life to this dream and we owe him a profound transformation of the pictorial fact, which he turned into a mental exercise, far from simple contemplation. As disrespectful as he was great, he never made artistic concessions. Permanently dissatisfied with his achievements, he was capable of destroying his paintings in a fit of rage. Extravagant, unsociable and obsessive, Cézanne was not valued at his time, but his influence was felt in painting throughout the 20th century.
