Jeff Wall. Works and Writings

Jeff Wall's large-format transparencies, rendered in cibachrome and mounted on light boxes, have been highly influential over the past three decades. A period in which the way of conceiving the relationship between art and history has undergone a profound change. He is one of the last artists to work from a linear vision of history, to later reconsider the relationship of his work with it, in a world where that historical perspective is no longer sustainable. Wall's compositions, both in color and in black and white, maintain a constant dialogue with 19th century genre painting, making him unmistakably a painter of modern life, in Charles Baudelaire's expression. In addition to an in-depth essay by Michael Newman, this book reproduces the complete works of Jeff Wall up to the present day and collects his main writings on the creative experience of other important contemporary artists.
